Launch of orienteering route
We are delighted that the South Ribble Orienteering Club has produced an orienteering map for our village. There will be a launch of the route at a special event on Tuesday May 28th, starting at 6.30pm at The Centre @ Halton.
The Club’s website, http://www.sroc.org has full details of the Club’s activities, including this event.
Normal entry fees are £5 adults and £3 juniors (18 and under) but the Club has generously made a special concession to Halton residents who are not orienteers, so they may enter this event for free.
There is no official minimum age but anyone under 16 on 28th May must be accompanied by someone 16 or over throughout the event. This is because the area to be used includes several roads which may be expected to carry traffic moving at 30 mph, and the event insurers impose this age limit in these circumstances.
Anyone interested needs to register at The Centre from 6.15 pm, so that they can be ready to start on time.
The event will be in two parts, a “prologue” with start times between 6.30 pm and 7 pm. The results from this are then used to determine the start order in the “final” which will start around 7.15 pm. The two courses are quite short, hence the sprint title, with expected winning times of 10 and 15 minutes respectively.
However up to 30 and 40 minutes is also very common and very acceptable.
