Wonderful Willow Weaving Weekend
The Willow Weaving and Crafts weekend held at The Centre on 25 and 26 January was a fantastic success. Lots of local families, and some people from further afield, came to the Centre to give their time and energy preparing food, manning craft stalls and serving behind the bar but most of all making really creative structures from the willows.
There was also a great performance on Saturday evening by the Quernmore Ceilidh Band which was enjoyed by everyone. It was a calm, relaxing and creative weekend.
The storks, fish and stars are now to be varnished before being fixed to the raised walkway. A great deal of help was received from Willow Weaver’s Steve and Simone who are now interested in running classes for a fee and people will be able to take their creations home
Centre Manager, Maureen Richardson, said:
“ This creative weekend was a great way to kick off our 2014 events programme. It was enjoyed by everyone, whatever their age, and all the wonderful creations will now be on show at our Centre and can be appreciated by all our users and visitors.”
The weekend was made possible by a grant from the Big Lottery Community Spaces fund, managed by Groundwork UK. Wendy Jenkins, Programmes Director at Groundwork UK, said: “As an environmental and community development charity we are committed to helping local people to improve their local neighbourhoods.
“We have already supported 935 groups with their projects and this extra money has helped The Centre @Halton to celebrate their space and hopefully encourage others to get involved. It’s all part of our wider campaign to Make Tomorrow Different.”
