Volunteering Opportunities at The Centre @ Halton
The Centre @ Halton relies heavily on volunteers to support the part-time staff and very much appreciates their time and efforts. When volunteers are on holiday or ill, or unable to help for various reasons, it is a lot of work for the centre staff to do – and let’s face it there are only so many hours in a day. We really need some new volunteers with new ideas, skills and energy to join the team. Why do people volunteer – you meet people, to get involved in village life, it’s fun, got some spare time, used to do something like this before. We’ve all got different skills and experience and through volunteering we have learnt new things.
It is great to have a team to serve (minimum age 18) , collect glasses, wash up (not all by hand!), to set out chairs and tables for a party or a show, and to put them away afterwards – well, many hands make light work. There’s a price list so you don’t have to memorise everything.
Volunteers are welcome to do a couple of hours or a whole shift. It’s all appreciated. Fancy having a go? We need event and bar volunteers on these dates:
Sat 2nd Sept , Fri 8th Sept , Sat 16th Sept , Sat 30th Sept (private parties)
Fri 28th Oct Ad Hoc performance – The Haunting Charles Dickens
Fri 15th Dec Ad Hoc performance – Puss in Boots
Sun 31st Dec New Years Eve Ceilidh
We really need volunteers at the Coffee Shop on Thursday and Friday afternoons 2pm – 5pm, so please get in touch to help out. We also need occasional cover for volunteer’s holidays. You don’t need to be able to cook, if you can make a sandwich, and use a toaster and a microwave, that’s fine. There’s no complicated till and if you can’t add up quickly, there’s pen and paper and a calculator. If you’re not available every week, how about once a fortnight for the Memory Cafe? That’s on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month from 10.45am – 12.30pm.
If you like cooking, the Luncheon Club could do with some help, also with serving and washing up. Perhaps you could bake tasty morsels like sausage rolls and savouries, small cakes and large cakes too for events and to sell in the coffee shop. There’s also the FareShare Food – surplus food given to the Centre from Carnforth Tesco. It’s food deemed unsuitable for sale but within its expiry date. The project helps to prevent food waste and food poverty. We’ve used some to supplement the Luncheon Club meals, donated to groups within the Centre, used it in the Coffee Shop and distributed some to vulnerable people in our village. In order to start up again in September we need at least 2 new volunteers. If you are free on a Thursday morning to help sort and distribute this food please contact the Centre.
