Coffee Shop

Since we launched the Coffee Shop in 2011 we have gone from strength to strength with a small number of volunteers, student help in the holidays and our weekend paid staff.  As we find our community Coffee Shop becoming ever more popular we are looking for new volunteers.

Read what some volunteers have to say

If you would like to join our team whether you can manage 2 or 3 hours a week, or once a fortnight, or even once a month, it all helps a great deal.

Contact the Coffee Shop co-ordinator Pauline Hall  email:  coffeeshop@haltoncentre.org or tel: 07799 502199. Also you can call in at The Centre, and we will be very happy to hear from you.

Become a volunteer and you will gain experience.  Some of our younger volunteers have used this experience to enhance their CVs which has helped them to secure paid work elsewhere.

We need more volunteers for our Coffee Shop mainly on Mondays and Thursdays and to provide support during the summer months.  We also need volunteers in the week on a casual basis as sometimes the regular volunteer is unable to come and it would be great to have another person able to cover.

There’s no cooking involved. You don’t need to be able to cook, if you can make a sandwich, and use a toaster and a microwave, that’s fine. There’s no complicated till and if you can’t add up quickly, there’s pen and paper and a calculator.

Do you have some spare time? Or come with a friend? It doesn’t have to be for the whole afternoon, an hour or two is fine, it all helps. Adult volunteers may work on their own for short periods of time but generally it’s with the support of the Centre staff Monday to Friday or with the weekend staff. The weekend staff are in the Coffee Shop at the busiest times – weekends and school holidays.

We also have opportunities in the Coffee Shop for young people to do their volunteer element for their Duke of Edinburgh award.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Since the Coffee Shop opened in 2013 we have had a steady stream of students working towards their volunteer module of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.  Perhaps you know someone who might be interested, please let them know.

Young volunteers (age 14-17 years) work alongside a responsible adult to help run the Coffee Shop and provide a friendly atmosphere for our customers.  Hours are flexible with an average of 2-3 hours per week.

We will have places available for students on Saturdays and Sundays and during the school holidays in the summer.  Some of our Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteers have used this experience to enhance their CVs and found it has helped them to obtain paid work elsewhere. We can’t offer payment but being a volunteer for the Coffee Shop will look great on your CV – and we can offer snacks!

We introduce volunteers to our Coffee Shop in a friendly and informal way. There’s just a short Registration Form and an Equal Opportunities Form to complete, no CV required.

Find out when our next intake will be – talk to Coffee Shop co-ordinator Pauline Tel 07799 502199 or email coffeeshop@haltoncentre.org

Why not pop into the Coffee Shop at a weekend and discuss the role with one of the weekend staff.
